I Stopped Playing Team Fortress 2 After 1000 Hours: A Reflection
I haven't touched Team Fortress 2 in years, but it's still my most played game on my Steam list. Nothing even comes close to it's almost 1000 hours of time played. The game I've played the second most is 400 hours behind. So if I've enjoyed this game for so long, why did I stop?
The game got boring. There was no further reason to play. I couldn't play for competition because people are either too good or too new. I couldn't play with my friends because they grew out of it for their own reasons. There's no objective in playing the same maps I've done over and over.
Every once in a blue moon, the game gets a small update, but it never does anything to give me a good reason to come back. A few new maps, maybe a new dance animation, but nothing substantive. The only good updates came out on Halloween, but they only lasted for a month.
The reason I got into TF2 is now the reason I'm stepping out. You got the same good characters, the same good combat, and the same good gameplay concepts. But there's nothing to strive for. The game's served it's purpose, and judging by the amount of active players now, I think they agree with me.
